Not only is the luxurious Boutique Ocean Views the ideal holiday retreat, but it also has a history dating back to the 1930s, with Wendy's Cottage located on the site.
Why the name Wendy’s?
Located in the heart of the coastal fishing village of Hermanus, “Wendy’s” is named after a lone female whale that used to visit the town in the late 1930s. According to SJ du Toit’s book, ‘Hermanus Stories’, this Whale, fondly known as Wendy, was considered one of the family by the village folk, as she returned yearly. She stopped coming to the bay in the early 1940s, but the house situated on the rocks near that lonesome spot was named Wendy’s cottage in her honour. The tradition continued until the 1950s when another female whale was named Wendy. The press regularly reported on the movements of Wendy and her calf.
Today we still refer to the new guesthouse on the property as “Wendy’s”, in honour of the female whales that can regularly be spotted, with their calves, for your room or the living areas of the guesthouse from the end of June to October every year.
